“Did you know that road rage is the leading cause of death among enormous douchebags?” Thanks, GOOD!

good:

I always wondered why it was so difficult for drivers to just pay attention and not be assholes. Then I moved to Los Angeles and got a car. Here, we do not operate our vehicles so much as we hang out in them. Hunkered in my sedan, I’m now comfortable juggling an iced coffee and the radio dial while “courtesy” honking the car in front of me. Only when I jump back on my bicycle do I become a little bit scared about the person that I become when I’m behind the wheel.

What Drivers Really Think About Bikers: The History and Psychology of Sharing the Road

“Here, we do not operate our vehicles so much as we hang out in them.”

THIS

I sometimes feel like I am the only one in this city who gets into a car to go somewhere, like you know, to WORK? It’s 8:30am and people are lazily rolling through intersections, turning at 0.5 mph, and we wonder why traffic is so bad.

As for bicycles, I completely respect them as long as they are following the rules of the road like everyone else. That includes actually stopping at stop signs my two-wheeled friends. Be careful!

Out of town friends are useful for going to tourist spots. I was too impatient to look for Marilyn before.

Day 2: Skyline

Looking towards the Westside

In Southern California, you can view snow-capped mountains from a warm sandy beach. You can surf and ski or snowboard in the very same day, should you choose. Our city is defined and criticized for its car culture, but we have access to the most amazing surfing, biking and hiking trails in the Santa Monica Mountains and beyond. Deserts, old growth forests and lakes are all within easy reach.

New York vs. Los Angeles: L.A. is a ‘heavenly place’

I’ve lived in LA and only visited NYC but there is no contest in my opinion. I get it, NYC is a hub of amazing restaurants, experiences and assorted other awesomeness (making it a great place to visit obviously). However, when you’ve got about triple the amount of people living in an area that’s less than a quarter of the size of LA, driving up the price and availability of real estate, I’ll pass.

Plus, I do love that I can go from desert to ocean in one day (albeit sitting in traffic…that cannot be denied…)

If you’re not familiar with the streets I’m talking about, the best way I can think of to describe the depressing lameness of this route is to pretend you drove down a busy strip of car dealerships and Arby’s restaurants, drove over someone’s lawn, made a detour through a strip mall, and then got dropped off in hell. All while someone on a headset microphone pretended like the tire fires and AIDS piles you were looking at were the Taj Mafuckinghal. There is a sinking feeling in my stomach as we keep driving further and further west because I know that the further out we go means we’ll have to spend at least that much time coming back. No one told me how long this tour actually was before it started, but it turns out it’s forever hours.

Shit People Say In LA. This feels way too much like my life.

Finally watched it

Lived here 3+ years now and am guilty of:

- Talking about the weather (but omg it really was 80 in January!)

- Bitching about parking

- I sincerely like kale

- But really, getting from the Eastside to the Westside is a gigantic pain in the ass

- Why don’t I go to the beach more???

- Mofo In-N-Out. Animal Style forever.

- sunsets…

But I do not go thrifting, have anything to do with the film industry, I never see anyone famous (though I did indeed see David Spade…woo) and I sure as hell don’t give a shit about organic anything.
